Object Name |
Plate, Commemorative |
Description |
This is a pewter plate manufactured by the Wilton Armentale company of Pennsylvania. It is one of 150 plates commissioned by Jan Seipel, of Waterville, Ohio, to honor the USA Bicentennial, Waterville, Ohio's founding year (which is incorrect: it was actually founded in 1831!) and Herman Rupp's store on the bank of the Miami-Erie Canal in Waterville. This plate has been photographed against a copy of a news article in the March 25, 1976 Anthony Wayne Standard newspaper. The article states that Herman Rupp was the recipient of the first plate on Monday, March 22, 1976. The photograph used to create the image in the center of the plate, hung in the home of Mr. Rupp, at that time. |
