  2. Butter Churn - Churn, butter

    A rounded-bottom rectangular wooden tub with iron straps at each end with a handle on top. It has 3 wooden legs and a wooden lid with cross supports and a single knob handle in center. One end reads: "Union Churn - 1st premium awarded at the Ohio, Ind., Mich, Wis., Illinois and New York State Fairs in 1865, 1866 and 1868" Mfg. by Union Mfg. Co., Toledo, Ohio". The assembly is incomplete: handle and paddle are missing.

  3. Case for Duplicator - Case

    A large sheet metal cover, square at base and rounded at top, with a wire and wood carrying handle attached. The cover is painted black, with gold lettering near top and has clamps at the base to attach to the rotary printing machine 1994.009.001. Lettering says "Rotary Neostyle No. 8-F".

  4. Cast Iron Fire Starter Pot - Fireset

    A small black cast iron fire starter pot, with three small legs, a lid, and a wire handle. This pot would be filled with a flammable liquid to facilitate fire lighting or transfer, and would be found on the hearth or near a wood stove.

  5. Cultivator, walking - Cultivator, walking

    A hand-guided, walk-behind horse-drawn cultivator. The wrought iron "J" shaped metal portion has a long forward portion with loop, to attach a horse harness, and diverges into three down-curving branches with a 4" cultivator blade on each branch. Wood handles, curved at the upper end, are attached to the metal work, at the bottom, with bolts. This device was made by Charles Graf, at his blacksmith shop, for John M. Brown.

  6. "Cyclone" broadcast seeder - Seeder, Hand Centrifugal

    A canvas bag with a canvas shoulder strap attached to a wooden frame (painted orange), with a hand crank operating a rotating platform by a gear and crank system. The bag is printed in black ink: "Cyclone-trademark- Seed Sower - patented 1925 made at - Urbana, Indiana-USA" a paper tag attached inside wood frame gives operating instructions.

  7. Farm Wagon Model - Model, patent

    Farm wagon model built by Albert Graf in 1895, a blacksmith, as a model for a patented axle steering mechanism. The back wheels measure 20" and the front wheels measure 16". The box is painted green, the wheels orange and yellow, with black accents. The restoration of this wagon to original specification and colors was done by Andrew M. Harvey III (see notebook 2001.017.1)

    A wooden frame with brass clips on back and 2 trap doors hinged in middle. It is used as a developing holder for the exposed glass-plate negative. The back is made in halves so that one half can be raised occasionally during the printing process to ascertain the progress of developement.

  10. Grading West River Road - Negative, Glass-plate

    A glass-plate negative of the grading of West River Road, with teams of horses. Helen Lyon Spafford remembered that the road was graded and paved with gravel around 1925.

  11. Hand planter - Planter, hand

    This seed planter consists of two wood slats, each 2.5" wide with a round handle bolted to the top of each and a rectangular metal piece attached at the bottom of each. Metal pieces are hinged together to form a "bill" or trough that opens and closes. A "U" shaped container is attached to one slat with a metal piece at bottom that slides in and out to deliver a seed from container and drops to bottom. The wood was originally painted red.

    This seed planter consists of a large canvas bag with a shoulder strap, attached with a metal buckle.At the bottom of the bag is a round metal "funnel" with an adjustable metal cap to change the size of the opening. A detachable telescoping long metal funnel friction fits over the end and has 2 wire loops, at right angles to each other, at the tip.     A homemade device, consisting of two wooden 2" x 4" boards banded together with iron strips bolted through and a wooden handle with a rounded end as a cam to force the two wooden strips apart. One strip has two notches for axle. The wooden handle is 18" long.

    A large metal meat grinder: hand-cranked auger inside, a wide flared opening on top of one end of metal cylinder and a threaded ring, holding flat piece with many holes, on the other end of the cylinder. Its four legs are screwed to a long oak plank. Embossed writing reads: "Enterprise Tinned Meat Chopper" & "Pat. Jan 30, 83 - APL 13.86 - Philadelphia, U". Hopper says "No. 22".

    This rotary hand-operated printing machine has a rotating (partial) cylinder of sheet brass full of small holes, a cylindrical ink container supported by a cast metal frame, all mounted on a mahagany-colored wood base. There is a matching wood paper collecting tray. Hand crank is broken off at base. This model has counting and adjustment mechanisms.
